Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Mehret! This part made me go "yes!":
"In reality, even beautiful people are just people; doing the same thing as you— waiting for the train, adding fruits to their baskets, walking down the street. They don’t just exist in a perfect pose in aesthetically pleasing backgrounds."
I didn't answer the poll because I am on social media, but only because I practise extreme minimalism and there's nobody else like me IRL (believe me when I say it, lol). I have minimalist friends, but they are not "extreme" like me. So Facebook has groups, and I'm part of an extreme minimalism group there, which for me is a haven amidst this chaotic, consumeristic, filled-with-things society. But other than Facebook, I do not use social media - not IG, X, TikTok, whatever else.
Glad it resonated! Sometimes I think "do I even make sense?" and it's nice to hear "yes!" ☺️
It's so important to be a part of communities aligned with your values and passion- and sometimes that's on Facebook! I'm also a huge proponent of minimalism and it's an-ongoing joke with friends and family how little I own. I HEAR YOU about "chaotic, consumeristic, filled-with-things society." Also... I refuse to call it anything but Twitter LOL
Thank you for reading and taking the time to share your thoughts; always appreciate it <3
I do wish I could find extreme minimalists IRL, but hah, that's nearly impossible around me... unfortunately! I'm glad that you are also a minimalist - doesn't it feel freeing to have so few things? Haha, I thought I was the only one who thinks the new Twitter name is ridiculous :P So glad I'm not!
I've been off of social media for 3 months now and I cant say enough about how well I've been doing. But i find myself fighting the urge to re-download cause I feel like I'm missing something.
Then I remember that through all the years I have been on it , nothing has really happened.
I'm smiling reading your comment because I've been there!!! Years after, I promise it does get easier and one day it's the idea of being on social media that's unfathomable. Your FOMO Is lying to you because like you said nothing really happens on social media so what are you missing out on? What is there to go back to? Empty noise. Keep going!!! Reality will adjust.
