A provoking (in a good way) collection of stories and links. Thank you!

What I wouldn't give to not have my work tethered so tightly to my iPhone. I'd LOVE to be back on my old flip phone. Alas, those days are long behind me.

But just knowing that flip phone manifesto exists makes me feel wonderful.

I appreciate you, thank you for reading.

They don't call it "a slot machine in our pocket" for nothing. Maybe retirement will finally free you? Ha! Funny how flip phone is the new luxury. *sigh*

What was your favorite takeaway from Outlier: The Story of Success?

I'm still reading, but my favourite take away so far has been how much of who we are and what we do and what we accomplish is influenced by the things we have no control over: what year you're born, your family, the school system you went to, culture, society, the random person who gave you the first book you fell in love with.

But, Gladwell doesn't present it as 'well, you're fucked if you don't get lucky.' We are all lucky in some sense, and outliers take better advantage of their luck.

Example he gives: Bill Gates had access to computers very young, and came from a wealthy family sure, but he took advantage of his luck by becoming obsessed with computers and spending hours tinkering with them for years. I'm sure there were others around the same time who also had similar access to computers but didn't become Bill Gates. Luck but also gotta put in the work?

In short, take advantage of your luck(s). It's a great book! His writing style is also very enjoyable.
