Apps won't cure your loneliness
Or, why people are good for you (Sorry, social media followers don't count.)
Hi there,
Can you keep a secret?
Five things to share:
The internet hates small talk, rightfully so. Why bother with the weather when you can pick up your phone? My friend and I are looking at her phone; there’s a post about the Ukraine war, and “Oh, and DIY home renovation!” We laugh, my head hurts. Pick up your phone and first thing you see can be death, or a cute baby. How’s the weather anyway? You can check that too. “What a beautiful weather,” duh, but it breaks the ice. I have learned to love small talk, it leads to the big talk and you wouldn’t believe your ears. And anyway, the apps won't cure your loneliness.
When all else fails, frame whatever is going on in a way that makes it fun. For example, while killing time at the airport, you can treat yourself to a round of the always-enjoyable game: Would I wear that T-shirt? Suddenly the world becomes a source of entertainment, and a living museum of human behavior.
A quote I want to share with you:
Sometimes I really believe it, that I am going to save my life a little.

Facebook – to delete, or not to delete? For Facebook is not the disease, it is but a symptom.
A question/challenge for you: Who is your best-loved person in your life (non-romantic)?
Show them a little love today— A text, a phone call, dinner plans, et cetera.
That’s all for this week!
