Before you go…
If it is between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and time spent offline;
If it is between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and time spent with my favourite humans, never making it home, sleeping here and napping over there;
If it is between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and hours spent on the phone with my best friend, talking about yet another good-for-nothing man in her life (love you still and forever!!!!!);
between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and time spent taking my sweeeeet time getting ready to go out; showering, doing my makeup and all the dance routine that must accompany each brush stroke, and carefully picking out my outfit so I feel cute— I only get attention offline and I make every effort to do so (I still want attention, we all do, it’s just better in person);
between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and time spent soaking up the sunshine, pouring our hearts to each other, walking around the Market, eating Oxtail dumplings that taste like love, encouraging bad decisions and believing together;
between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and time spent arm wrestling at the restaurant to amuse ourselves until food arrives;
If it’s between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and time spent patiently listening to the Universe as the lady reads my Tarot cards, and she says, she says to me first thing, after one look, ‘you’re a story teller’— I want to cry;
If it’s between time spent offline the Substack newsletter and time spent pouring my heart out on the empty pages of a $2 notebook, and the pain says to me, “I’m still scared,” and I say back to it, “It’s okay, we’re safe now. What do you need so you feel it too?”;
and a Sunday spent letting my body heal at yoga, my heart heal at brunch and chugging mimosas so we’re not late for a show on happiness;
and getting lots and lots and lots of warm, loving, caring hugs— I got hugs from 8 people this weekend. I didn’t set out to achieve that number but it delights me nonetheless that that’s my life now;
and, and, and all the music while commuting from place to place, and the gentle smiles from strangers on the bus, the train, walking here and there, and noticing so much beauty I know we will all be just fine…
And, if it is between all that and time spent offline the Substack newsletter, I am choosing time spent offline. The internet doesn’t need another content.
I hope you choose time spent offline, too. You don’t need another content to know. You can learn a lot, in fact all you need to learn, from paying attention to your life, to yourself. What do you want to know?
As always, thank you for your attention. You could have been anywhere else on the internet but you are here with me, and I appreciate that.
With so much gratitude for this tiny corner of the internet, and until next time,
Mehret
